Chewy Maple Bars

  • 250 ml (1 cup) toasted sesame seeds
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) sunflower seeds
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) raisins
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) dried apricot, diced
  • 250 ml (1 cup) crispy rice cereal (like Rice Krispies)
  • 80 ml (1/3 cup) maple butter
  • 1 egg
  • Butter or margarine (for baking dish)

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and butter a square 20-cm (8-in) Pyrex baking dish.
  2. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.
  3. Melt maple butter in a medium saucepan.
  4. Add dry mixture to the saucepan and stir well until all ingredients are well-coated.
  5. Beat egg in a small bowl. Add a little of the hot mixture to warm egg, then pour back into saucepan, mixing well.
  6. Press mixture into baking dish.
  7. Bake 12 to 15 minutes, or until top is slightly golden. Let cool before cutting into bars.
